When a minibus beats booking several cars
Once a group gets past seven or eight people, ordinary cars stop working. You end up with two or three minicabs, three pick-up times and a flurry of messages asking who is in which car. A minibus sorts all of that out. Everyone is collected together, everyone travels together, and everyone is dropped at the same door.
It is often kinder on the wallet too. One larger vehicle is usually cheaper than several separate cars, and you only deal with a single fare and a single driver.
Here are the sort of trips we are asked about most.
- Weddings. Guests staying at different hotels who all need to reach the same ceremony on time.
- Work outings. A team heading to a conference, a client visit or a Christmas party.
- Club and team days. Youth sides, running clubs and choirs travelling to a fixture or a concert.
- Big family get-togethers. Grandparents, cousins and a mountain of bags, all on the same flight.
- Weekends away. Stag dos, hen parties and milestone birthdays.
Minibus airport transfers from Kingston
Airport runs are where a minibus really earns its keep. Luggage piles up quickly, and a large group turning up at a terminal in three separate cars rarely goes smoothly. One vehicle means one drop-off point and one place to meet when you land.
Heathrow and Gatwick
Heathrow is the closest, around 13 miles from Kingston, and the drive usually takes 30 to 45 minutes. Gatwick is nearer 28 miles, which means 45 to 60 minutes on a normal day. Our Kingston to Heathrow taxi page covers terminals and timings, and the Kingston to Gatwick taxi page does the same for the North and South Terminals.
Stansted, Luton and London City
The longer the drive, the more sense one vehicle makes. Luton is roughly 40 miles away via the M25 and M1 and takes 60 to 80 minutes. Stansted is about 55 miles via the M25 and M11, so allow 75 to 100 minutes. London City Airport is around 20 miles but the Royal Docks end of the journey can be slow, so we suggest 60 to 90 minutes. Traffic can change all of these, and we build in a sensible buffer when we plan your pick-up time.
Stations, days out and the surroundings
Not every minibus trip involves a flight. Groups often head into Waterloo for a show or a train north, which takes 40 to 60 minutes. Families going west for a Cornish holiday book us for Paddington, and anyone connecting to the Gatwick Express or an early coach uses Victoria. A fixed pick-up time means nobody has to work out the last train home.
Closer to home, the surroundings give plenty of reasons to travel together. Hampton Court Palace is a short hop across the river, Richmond Park is on the doorstep for walking groups, and race days at Sandown Park in Esher draw big parties every season. If your group needs to be dropped at one gate and collected from another later, tell us when you book.
Weddings, parties and nights out
A wedding is a good example of why planning matters. Guests are often split between a hotel in Surbiton, a house in Teddington and a venue near Esher. Send us the list of pick-up points and the time the ceremony starts, and we will work back from there. A minibus shuttling between the venue and the hotels keeps the day relaxed and means nobody has to be the designated driver.
Nights out work the same way. Book the outward trip and a return together, give us a rough finish time, and the group can enjoy the evening without a scramble for a lift at closing time.
Pick-ups across Kingston and the surrounding area
We collect from addresses all over Kingston and the neighbouring areas, including Surbiton, New Malden, Teddington, Hampton Wick, Chessington, Worcester Park, Esher and Wimbledon. The full list is on our areas we cover page.
Some of those streets are narrow and lined with parked cars. If a larger vehicle will struggle to get down yours, say so when you book. We will agree an easy meeting point nearby so the group is not left standing about with their bags.
Luggage, child seats and accessibility
Tell us how many people are travelling and what they are bringing. Suitcases, pushchairs, golf bags, musical instruments and sports kit all take up room, and it is much easier to sort out before the day than on the pavement. If something will not fit safely, we will let you know in advance.
Child seats are available on request, so give us the number of children and their ages. If anyone in your group has accessibility needs, mention it as early as possible and we will do our best to match the right vehicle to the trip.
Is a minibus the right size for your group?
If there are only six or seven of you, a 7 or 8 seater taxi may be all you need and can work out cheaper. Once you are beyond that, or you have lots of luggage on top of a full load of passengers, a minibus is the more comfortable choice. Not sure which way to go? Call us with your numbers and we will point you in the right direction. We can also arrange hotel transfers for groups travelling in and out of London.
Planning a group pick-up that runs on time
A few small habits make a big difference. Nominate one person as the main contact and give us their mobile number. Tell the group the pick-up time and the exact spot, because one late passenger can hold everyone up. For airport returns, give us the flight number of whoever lands last, or call us if the group is arriving on different flights.
Timing your trip around Kingston traffic
Kingston is a busy town, and the roads out of it fill up at predictable times. The A3 and the M25 are the usual routes to the airports, and both slow down on Friday afternoons, at the start of school holidays and whenever there is an incident near the Heathrow junctions. Early morning departures are normally the smoothest.
For a flight, work backwards from check-in rather than take-off. A large group takes longer to unload, queue and drop bags than two people do. Add a little extra time for the walk from the pick-up point, and tell us if anyone needs help getting in or out of the vehicle. For a wedding or an event with a fixed start, plan to arrive well before the doors open so the group is not rushing in at the last second.

Frequently asked questions
How many people can a minibus take?
It depends on the vehicle. Tell us how many passengers and how much luggage you have when you book, and we will confirm the right minibus before the day.
Is minibus hire cheaper than booking several cars?
Usually, yes. One vehicle means one driver and one fare instead of a string of separate cars. You see the fare before you confirm, and it stays fixed for the journey as booked.
Can you collect our group from more than one address?
Yes. Give us every pick-up point and the time you need each one when you book. We plan the order, and the fare reflects the number of stops.
Can I book a minibus for an airport return?
Yes. Book both journeys together and give us your return flight number so we can track it. Meet and greet in arrivals is available on request.
Can you fit child seats?
Yes, on request. Tell us how many children need a seat and their ages, and we will fit them before pick-up.
Do you only cover Kingston?
We collect from addresses across Kingston and the surrounding areas, and we drive groups to airports, stations and venues across London and the South East. Tell us where you are going and we will confirm the trip.
How early should I book a minibus?
As early as you can, especially for weekends, bank holidays, school holidays and race days. Larger vehicles are limited, so popular dates fill up first.
